| This 180 hour training
is a thorough training for professional practitioners
who work with improving the mental and emotional
health of children and young people including
- health care professionals, social workers, school
counsellors, foster carers, teachers, LSA’s,
probation workers, behavioural support workers-
and school administrators. There are two main
foci of the course. The first is aimed to give
a thorough training in Adlerian psychology and
how personality and behaviour is formed in children
and carried forward into teenage years. Here we
look at:
• parenting styles and their outcomes,
• birth order and its significance
• how early memories play their part in
personality formation
• emotional health in the family: family
constellation, family values, myths, mottoes,
atmospheres
• the formation of a child’s beliefs,
attitudes and behaviours
• the mistaken goals of childhood behaviour
• social interest: a model for child mental
health
The second focuses on skills and appropriate interventions
to empower children and young people to responsibility,
resilience, social confidence and emotional health.
Here we focus on:
• The crucial C’s of child mental
health
• core communication and counselling skills
• how to work with child grief and loss
• enhancing your own personal development
and self awareness
• group dynamics and working with groups
• positive interventions to promote resilience
and growth in young people.
• Understanding and working safely with
selected personality disorders e.g. Bulimia, Anxiety,
Suicide & Young People.
Methodology The course is fully participative,
encouraging experiential learning. Self-awareness
and personal growth are integral because of the
need for participants to understand that as professionals
dealing directly with adults and children, they
require constant vigilance concerning their own
perceptions and group interactions.
Course participants would aim to:-
• Develop enhanced interpersonal and facilitation
skills
• Gain fluency and flexibility in group
interventions and in a range of tools and techniques
• Understand your own influence and impact
on a group and of group dynamics
• Learn Adlerian methods and how to apply
them to family and school and work.
