NEW TWILIGHT STUDY DIPLOMA IN ADLERIAN COUNSELLING 2010-2012

Venue: Adlerian Counselling Centre, Narberth.

Following satisfactory completion of the Certificate in Adlerian Counselling or equivalent qualification plus an Adlerian Access course, students are eligible to work towards the Diploma in Adlerian Counselling.

This two-year part-time course of 285 hours provides a firm foundation in counselling theory, skills, practice and personal development, using an integrative approach underpinned by the theory and practice formulated by Alfred Adler, whose thinking has influenced psychodynamic, cognitive and humanistic approaches. Adlerian counselling takes an holistic view of the person in his or her social setting, exploring the purpose of their behaviour. It emphasises a counselling relationship based on equality, respect and encouragement.
The course presents a thorough training in both the theory and practice of counselling with an emphasis on experiential work and personal development. Students are required to have a minimum of twenty hours of their own personal counselling during each year of the course. The Adlerian Centre has a list of local counsellors, some of whom offer reduced rates to students.

Experienced trainers from home and abroad present the weekend workshops, as well as other specialists being invited to facilitate many of the evening sessions.

Timing

Two-year programme, over six terms (September–June), with new student entry every two years. TEN weeks per term of one twilight session (6.00-9.15pm) per week (Tuesdays), plus FOUR full-day (9.30-4.30) Saturday workshops per year plus TWO study weekends (November and May) in each year; plus an Introductory Day (Saturday, 10.00-4.00) and a residential week or partial week (Spring Term) in the first year.
During the first year students are also expected to find a counselling placement and begin supervision arrangements. 100 counselling hours are required to qualify for the Diploma.

Accreditation/Cost

This course is accredited by the Adlerian Society of UK. The cost of training is £1,500 per annum (the option of £300 deposit and 10 monthly instalments of £120 is available upon application). Students will also need to fund four CPD days (student rate of £60 per day) and also join both the Adlerian Society of Wales (£36 pa) and the Adlerian Society of the UK who accredit the course (£35). Students will also need to fund their own personal counselling, and may also have to pay for supervision if this is not provided by their placement.
