Friends of the Society

We are a counselling charity working out of a building which we rent in Narberth, Pembrokeshire. In 2013 we opened another branch rented premises in Cardigan, Ceredigion.  For the past 10 years we have been self-funding through income from our members who pay membership fees, our room hire, income from our counsellor training courses and through donations and  the sale of maple syrup.  However during this present economic climate our services are under threat and we are for the first time seeking sponsors and friends to help us during this time,

Our work in the Community

Counselling Training – Every year we train counsellors at Introduction, Certificate and Diploma Standard.

Confidential Counselling – including low cost counselling to some 200-250  people per year from Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire. Some of the things we counsel are: depression, anxiety and panic, relationship and families, compulsive behaviours, identity and low self-esteem issues, bereavement and loss, bi-polar and mood swings, eating disorders, stress and trauma.  There is no waiting list – we have access to 30 self-employed counsellors.

Family Support and Counselling – we counsel and support families who are under stress  including children and young people

Schools Work –  Training pupils as Peer mentors with relevant skills to provide a helping layer of support to offset bullying and depression in school.

Work with the Elderly – Thanks to grant funding we are setting up a project to visit Elderly people in Care Homes and to use reminiscence work to tackle isolation and disconnection

Job Centre Plus Project – We have affiliation with the Job Centre in Cardigan who fund us to provide 6 sessions of counselling with Job Seekers who suffer from depression and sometimes despair.

Online Counselling for Young People Project – Schools Counselling has seen severe cuts in provision by the local  county council.  We are now  seeking funding to help us set up an online service for young people.

How your donation can help.

£4 per month membership helping us to keep our office staff and general running costs.

£10 will fund a low-cost counselling session  with one of our advanced trainees.

£35-45 will fund one session with an experienced counsellor.

£45 will fund a family counselling session with parents and children.

£100 will pay our telephone bill for a month in Cardigan.

£200 would pay the telephone bills for both Cardigan and Narberth for a month.

A donation of any size is so welcome as we fight to continue to provide these community services for our town and district.
